Our technology will change aviation as you know it.
In order to achieve the best time to market of a zero emission propulsion system Conscious Aerospace has selected a retrofit route based on existing regional turboprop aircraft.
Hydrogen Aircraft Powertrain and Storage Systems (HAPSS)
An existing aircraft type is retrofitted with a HAPSS system which consist out of the following core elements:
· LH2 Storage and distribution system
· Fuel Cell and power conversion/management systems
· Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU)
· Thermal Management System
· Integration, control, and display modules
Developing these core elements for aerospace applications is a significant challenge but attainable goal and with the retrofit solution the focus is on the propulsion system development and aircraft integration in which the biggest technology leap can be made.
HAPSS 4000
Is a full system providing 4.0MW of power for 60+ seat turboprop aircraft.
HAPSS 2100
Is a full system providing 2.1MW of power for 30+ seat turboprop aircraft.
Certification for Hydrogen-Based Propulsion Systems
In the aerospace industry, certification is the cornerstone of all advancements. At Conscious Aerospace, we have integrated certification and system qualification into our processes from the very beginning. The certification of Hydrogen Aviation Propulsion Systems (HAPSS) presents unique challenges, as current aerospace regulations do not yet encompass these innovative technologies. To address this gap, Conscious Aerospace is actively developing the necessary specifications and standards.
Our commitment to establishing robust certification frameworks involves ongoing collaboration with aviation authorities, including the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), industry stakeholders, and research institutes. Through these discussions, we aim to pave the way for the safe and reliable integration of HAPSS into the aviation ecosystem. This concerted effort is focused on ensuring that hydrogen propulsion systems can be introduced as certified products by the 2030s, meeting the highest standards of safety and performance.
Conscious Aerospace is dedicated to leading the charge in this critical area, ensuring that the future of sustainable aviation is built on a foundation of rigorous certification and regulatory compliance. By proactively addressing the certification challenges of HAPSS in close cooperation with EASA, we are helping to shape the regulatory landscape and support the seamless adoption of hydrogen-based technologies in the aerospace industry.
Modified and certified retrofit aircraft
An aircraft propulsion retrofit is the basis of the current HAPSS system. The modification entails the following changes:
· Removal of:
o Gas-turbine and related components
o Fuel systems
· Modification / Installation:
o Cabin modification:
§ LOPA Change
§ Storage and Distribution
o Propulsion System Installation
Conscious Aerospace Commercial Solution Packages
With a retrofit Conscious Aerospace can offer two commercial solutions packages to our customers:
· Turnkey solution:
o Conscious Aerospace manages the zero-emission retrofit and delivers the modified aircraft to the customer
· Modification Kit Delivery:
o Retrofit HAPSS kits and oversight for aircraft modification to a zero-emission configuration
Future Developments
As the aviation industry shifts towards sustainability, hydrogen-based propulsion systems are emerging as a pivotal technology in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing efficiency. Fuel cell hydrogen propulsion systems offer a promising alternative to traditional jet engines, with the potential to significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. These systems are not only environmentally friendly but also highly modular and scalable, making them adaptable for a wide range of aerospace applications, from small regional aircraft to large commercial jets.
At Conscious Aerospace, we are at the forefront of this transformative journey. Leveraging our extensive knowledge in Hydrogen Aviation Propulsion System (HAPSS) architectures and their implications for aircraft certification, we are committed to advancing the development of sustainable aviation technologies. Our expertise allows us to support the design and integration of hydrogen propulsion systems in retrofitting existing fleets, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory standards and industry best practices.
